Prince Edward recently opened Cambridge Newspapers £9.5million presshall extension and press equipment upgrade.

Saunders Boston designed the original press hall in 1989 and has provided Cambridge Newspapers with an extension and programme of alterations works to accommodate the replacement of 6 original press towers with new state of art equipment, effectively doubling the presses capacity to 70,000 copies an hour.

The works were carried out in 3 phases over 2 years, allowing a minimum of four presses to run at any one time. The works were programmed in detail, even breaking the work down into daily elements to allow the contractor, press installer and building users to work efficiently with minimal disruption.

On completion of the works, Cambridge Newspapers had not missed printing a single edition.
