Morgan Sindall appointed Saunders Boston as lead designer for this design and build project.  Working closely with the main contractor, design team and client team, Saunders Boston developed a complete design within a highly constrained budget on a fast moving programme.

Saunders Boston worked closely with Mace’s Design Studio who were the original concept and planning designers for this landmark project.

The project draws on 'My Place' funding from 'the big lottery fund' and looked to incorporate the needs of numerous stakeholder groups.  The concept design provides two contrasting contemporary architectural approaches.  A 'solid shell' wraps around a series of offset building elements with an inset translucent material.

The inset material is designed to maximise natural light into the building while giving an appearance that the wrapped element is floating freely around.  The design also incorporates environmentally conscious features such as solar energy, grey water recycling and natural ventilation with a view to achieving a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good'.

The completed scheme offers users a range of facilities including teaching spaces, breakout spaces, IT suite, dance studio,  multi-purpose hall, radio and recording suite, 'Duke of Edinburgh' resource spaces and an outdoor MUGA.
