Priestgate Court, Peterborough

Client
Crosskeys Homes/Lindum Peterborough

Created by a mixture of refurbishment and new build construction this scheme creates 29 new affordable homes, which have enabled the future of an area of Peterborough’s historic centre to be secured.

The site lies within the city conservation area, and includes a number of listed 17th and 18th century buildings which had fallen into disrepair.

The project has removed poor quality 20th century extensions from the listed buildings converting them into apartments. Key historic features have been carefully restored preserving the streetscape of this part of historic Peterborough and creating homes with individual character.

In the grounds new blocks of flats have been designed to complement the existing buildings providing further affordable apartments. These new apartments meet the stringent ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’ requirements, ensuring highly sustainable well designed homes. The new buildings feature brickwork plinths, corbelled brickwork and carefully designed windows to create a building which deferentially responds to the historic buildings adjacent.

The design team and contractor ensured that a collaborative approach was taken with key decisions on materials and detailing of the buildings considered at length with the Peterborough City Council Conservation department.
